Agatha Christie wrote 80 mystery novels and story collections, 14 plays, six 'romantic' novels under the pseudonym of Mary Westmacott and four other books, two of them under the name Agatha Christie Mallowan. She also collaborated on The Floating Admiral. This unique novel was published in 1931 as a collaborative work of 14 first-class detective story writers.

Lilian Jackson Braun(Photo by Nancy Pierce) Lilian Jackson Braun. The Cat Who... series.

Between 1966 and 1968, Lilian Jackson Braun published three novels: The Cat Who Could Read Backwards, The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern and The Cat Who Turned On and Off. In 1966, The New York Times labeled Braun, "the new detective of the year." Then, for reasons unknown, the rising mystery author disappeared from the publishing scene.

It wasn't until 1986 that the Berkley Publishing Group reintroduced Braun to the public with the publication of an original paperback, The Cat Who Saw Red. Within two years, Berkley released four new novels in paperback and reprinted the three mysteries from the sixties. G.P. Putnam's Sons has since published twelve hardcover originals.

Even though Braun claims that her cats have never done anything extraordinary, her fictional cats, Koko and Yum Yum, solve crimes and delight fans in book after book. She lives with two Siamese cats and her husband, Earl Bettinger, in North Carolina.

Lawrence Sanders (Photo by Pamela J. Smith) Lawrence Sanders, who died February 7, 1998, left a memorable body of thrillers in his Deadly Sins and Commandments series. He also wrote the Archie McNally series which is my favorite, including McNally's Gamble McNally's Gamble. Archie McNally, Sanders' "raffish combination of Dashiell Hammett's Nick Charles and P.G. Wodehouse's Bertie Wooster" (The New York Times), returns in another tale of love and larceny among the wealthy denizens of south Florida. When a well-to-do widow is urged to buy a Faberge Imperial egg, her adult offspring violently oppose the investment and enlists Archie to put the kibosh of the deal.

Guilty Pleasures, published February 1998, is the saga of a family that breaks all the rules. Lawrence Sanders blends suspense and scandal to create a fascinating story.
