LST 715 is Named

In accordance with the Secretary of the Navy notice of 12 May 1955, the ship was named the USS DeKalb County (LST 715) to honor a county which is found in the following states: Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee. The name became effective 1 July 1955.

Decommissioning

She was transferred to the Military Sea Transportation Service in December 1965 where she served as USNS DeKalb County until struck from the Navy list on 1 November 1973.

Disposed of by MARAD exchange 1 October 1983.
